Walnut Desk

I wanted to stay true to a Nakashima form for this desk.  Simple and hefty, it allows the wood to create an understated beauty.  I am very pleased with the Cocobolo butterfly keys.  They provide great contrast with the Walnut.

Walnut Desk

I found a great slab of walnut in the lumber yard about 28-30''x 5'.  The live edge on one side of the slab imitates a concave curve, perfect for a desk.  I made a simple trestle base with a cocobolo (mexican rosewood) wedged tenon.  The butterfly keys in the top are also cocobolo.

Happy New Year 1/1/13

Happy New Year everyone!  Welcome to my new site.  In my blog section I will be posting new projects from the wood shop and anything else that inspires me to create.  The photo here shows my first project of 2013.  A custom designed Douglas Fir coffee table.  The top is hand planed with my Stanley #7 jointer.  The legs and struts are tight fitting lap joints.
